Re: Pandemonium in Gloucester City Police Department

Several readers inquired whether or not I have tried to contact the two chiefs (William Crothers and Michael Kaye) for a response on the “Pandemonium” occurring in the police department for their side of the story.

The answer to the question is no. For obvious reasons the case is in litigation and neither man would be able to answer my questions. That was also the reason Mayor William James could not issue a response on what is happening in the department.

James did say when asked about the turmoil on January 10, 2008, "I am concerned that there are problems within the police department. But at this time because of the ongoing litigation I am unable to talk any further on the subject."

I make several efforts to contact the attorney representing the police chiefs, John Eastlack. And, Gloucester City News editor Albert Countryman also tried on numerous occasions contact Mr. Eastlack. None of the calls were returned.

Likewise an effort was made to contact Gloucester City Attorney John Kearney for the City’s explanation on the problem. But he too failed to respond.

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.-- The brave Mount Vernon cop who was gunned down by four Westchester officers as he struggled with a homeless man trying to steal his gun was posthumously promoted to detective yesterday.

It was cold comfort to the heartsick family of Officer Christopher Ridley, who received gold shield No. 11 in his honor.

The heart-wrenching ceremony took place in Mount Vernon's City Hall Council Chambers, where the 23-year-old officer had proudly taken the oath of office in January 2006.

"Let it be known from this moment on, that Christopher A. Ridley died a hero," said Mount Vernon Police Commissioner David Chong.

Still in dispute is whether Ridley, who was in civilian clothes, identified himself as a police officer - or if he even heard the four cops yell at him to drop the gun outside the Department of Social Services office in White Plains.

WHEN EAST MEETS WEST: Church Bulletin Booo-Boos

I received this from a good friend awhile back.  

 

Thank God for church ladies with typewriters. These sentences actually appeared in church bulletins or were announced at church services:

The Fasting & Prayer Conference: includes meals.

The sermon this morning: "Jesus walks on the Water." The sermon tonight: "Searching for
Jesus."

Ladies, don't forget the rummage sale. It's a chance to get rid of those things not worth
keeping around the house. Bring your husbands.

The peacemaking meeting scheduled for today has been canceled due to a conflict.

Remember in prayer the many that are sick of our community. Smile at someone who is hard
to love. Say "Hell" to someone who doesn't care much about you.

Don't let worry kill you off -- let the Church help.

Miss Charlene Mason sang "I will not pass this way again," giving obvious pleasure to the
congregation.

For those of you who have children and don't know it, we have a nursery downstairs.

Next Thursday there will be tryouts for the choir. They need all the help they can get.

The Rector will preach his farewell message after which the choir will sing: "Break Forth into
Joy."

Irving Benson and Jessie Carter were married on October 24 in the church. So ends a friendship that began in their school days.

At the evening service tonight, the sermon topic will be "What Is Hell?" Come early and listen
to our choir practice.

Eight new choir robes are currently needed due to the addition of several new members and
to the deterioration of some older ones.

Scouts are saving aluminum cans, bottles and other items to be recycled. Proceeds will be
used to cripple children.

Please place your donation in the envelope along with the deceased person you want
remembered.

The church will host an evening of fine dining, super entertainment and gracious hostility.

Potluck supper Sunday at 5:00 PM - prayer and medication to follow.

The ladies of the Church have cast off clothing of every kind. They may be seen in the
basement on Friday afternoon.

This evening at 7 PM there will be hymn singing in the park across from the Church. Bring a blanket and come prepared to sin.

Ladies Bible Study will be held Thursday morning at 10 AM. All ladies are invited to lunch in
the Fellowship Hall after the B.S. is done.

The pastor would appreciate it if the ladies of the congregation would lend him their electric
girdles for the pancake breakfast next Sunday.

Low Self-Esteem Support Group will meet Thursday at 7 PM. Please use the back door.

The eighth-graders will be presenting Shakespeare's Hamlet in the Church
basement Friday at 7 PM. The congregation is invited to attend this tragedy.

Weight Watchers will meet at 7 PM at the First Presbyterian Church. Please use large double
door at the side entrance.

Gloucester Catholic:Talented Dacierno left dreams on field

Dacierno, 62, still loves the summer game even in the dead of  winter and even well past his playing days.

"It is an everyday sport," he said, "you are going bad one  day and the next day you are a hero."

The former Gloucester Catholic High School star, who was named All South Jersey and first-team All State as a senior third baseman for the Rams in 1963, never got to live out his dream and become a Major League baseball hero.

Life got in the way after Dacierno was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers out of high school and went on to play for Tom Lasorda in Pocatello, Idaho in the minors.

Dacierno came home twice during spring training because his mother was sick back in 1966 -- and he never went back the second time.

Letters: Hello from Germany!

Hello from GERMANY! Well after being delayed in Kuwait due to plane issues we finally flew out 2 days later and reached Rammstein Airbase at 7pm on 24 JAN 08.
From here we had a big formation and turned in all of our weapons and sensitive items and start to begin in processing stage. After about 2 hours in Rammstein
we took a 1 1/2hr bus ride to Hanau were we downloaded all of our rucksacks and gear and the soldiers signed for their rooms. After all was finished we marched
over to the Gym singing cadence and it was finally then when it all hit me that were HOME and everything we did and accomplished over the past 15 months. It's
sad that we lost (3) soldiers: SGT Horner (sniper fire), SPC Murchinson, and SPC Farrar (IED's/ EFP's) and they couldn't be here to celebrate and they had
their lives taken away defending our country and what we believe in.

I know I will never forget my fallen soldiers and thank everyone who prayed and my angels who showed mercy upon me and the rest of us that were allowed to
return home to our husbands and wives, mothers and fathers , sons and daughters. They paid the ultimate sacrifice that only a soldier can truly explain to
you not someone who's sitting back at home bad mouthing our government, our President, and our country and all its people who are out there that support our troops every day and the battle and struggles that they go thru on a daily basis in order to keep our world safe from terrorists and evil people.

Well now we are going thru what we call Re-integration which is 7 days of basically updating each soldier's entire medical, dental, finance, personal records. We have to go thru different agencies who help support the soldiers and any issues they might have or been thru such as Chaplain and mental health services for any traumatic experiences that each soldier have experience over the past 15 months. Once all this is completed I we get to take BLOCK LEAVE (Vacation).

My wife Renata and I are going to Thailand from the 4-15 February then I will be coming to New Jersey hopefully from the 17-27 February. From what I saw in
the links my wife emailed to me Thailand was really beautiful where were going. My younger brother Chris is expecting his first child with his fiancée Stephanie. I am looking forward to seeing my Pop Pop who always asks my Aunt Cass and Uncle Tom when I am coming home.  Everything else here is well and I hope all is well with you and your family.

Bellmawr: Three Alarm Fire at Chemical Lab; One employee injured

 

January 30, 2008  19:35hrs

Bellmawr firefighters were sent to 131 Harding Avenue at ANA Chemical Laboratories for a reported building fire; companies found heavy fire on arrival from the rear of the building and a second alarm was struck, numerous explosions were heard and the Bravo wall collapsed. A third alarm was sounded about an hour later.

Fire fighters used numerous master streams to bring the fire under control.
Camden County and Cherry Hill Haz Mat were called to the scene due to the contents of the building. One employee was injured in the blaze.

Anna Laboratories is an Oil, Grease testing lab... so there is plenty of fuel for the fire.

The building is located near the entrance to rt 42 south, in the same building (opposite end) as the Monster Factory wrestling hall that we've all past a million times on our way to Rt 42. The lab is closer to Coolidge Ave.
