Stuart Alterman, who represents Police Benevolent Association Local 351, said the camera would likely have captured people walking into or out of the cell where Michael Coombs, a 20-year-old member of the Bloods street gang, was attacked.
Jason Laughlin, spokesman for the Camden County Prosecutor's Office, would not comment on the existence of a camera.
Williams said her son was so severely beaten he had shoe prints on his face and bruises on his brain. Officials at Cooper University Hospital in Camden said Coombs remained in critical condition.
