A Few Thoughts……On Barack, Hillary, and John

By Rich Luongo

Think about this for a moment. What is the most radical, liberal society on the face of the earth? France? The Scandinavian countries? Would you believe, the United States?

Of course, we have liberals in the Democratic Party and there are various other liberal politicians who don't belong to any party. We have radicalism and we have people marching in the streets, a throwback to Vietnam.

And the Republicans are pushing a conservative agenda through John McCain in an attempt to thwart the Democrats' efforts.

But, I ask, ponder this:

Barack Obama is the first black man — or woman — in American history that has a chance at getting the Democratic nomination for president. That is radical enough but he comes from a mixed marriage: a white mother and an African father. He embraced Islam as a youngster and he was later raised by his white grandparents.

He now belongs to a Christian church in Chicago led by a pastor who is blatantly anti-white.

Yet voters don't seem to care about any of this, especially those in the South, a region often considered the bastion of conservatism. He has charisma and is calling for change (although he never tells what kind of change that could be or how it will happen). Still, he's racing towards the nomination.

But so is Hillary Clinton. She is the only woman ever to get this far in the race for the presidency. Her background, with her husband's, is shady and many people have criticized her for many things she may or may not have done and some have said she should be in prison.

What does that have to do with the price of oranges?

Nothing.

In this radical, liberal society she could be president and so could Obama.

Now, we have John McCain. Out of the two, he's the most qualified to be in the Oval Office because of his background and years in the Senate.  But he doesn't offer anything different than what we now have. So what are we to do?

This is, undoubtedly, the most important presidential election this country has seen in generations and the outcome will set the direction for the 21st century.

I just hope all of us know what we're doing, especially the one who becomes president.

As a conservative Republican living in a Democrat-controlled city, county and state, I feel fortunate that Gloucester City, with all of its chronical problems, is such a safe, well protected community. I grew up here, was educated here and have always worked in town. When people tell me they are interested in buying a home, I always tell them to consider Gloucester City and that they would be surprised at the nice neighborhoods and easy access to major roads and bridges.
I wish there was some kind of representation from the other side of the political aisle. The way this state is run, now on display for ALL TO SEE, perhaps change will only occur if the voting populace who care enough to make a change will rise up and vote to allow majority Republican leadership in this state. Sadly, look at the daunting, challenging mess they would have the responsibility to clean up and make right.

Shortly after 9-11, Al Quaida told the USA they would get us from within. What better and easier way than to have a muslim in the White House? While I agree this is absolutely a historical election in our country, I am disappointed in the three candidates we have left in the running. We will be voting for the lesser of two evils. God help us all.

What is your take on the Gloucester City political situation? Did we follow the Pied Piper or is change going to occur? What have we accomplished besides increase the City debt? We certainly haven't seen the changes promised.
Feeling Duped

In 2000, Al Gore (D-TN) ran for president. He won the popular vote, but George W. Bush won the electoral vote and thus the presidency. In 2004, for whatever the reason Gore chose not to run against the incumbent. One would think he would have to avenge his earlier defeat. Enter John Kerry (D-MA). In a hard fought campaign, he lost, but in the process garnered the second most votes ever cast, behind the incumbent President Bush. Many would think that Kerry would run again with such heavy support. Now comes 2008 and the best the Democrats have to offer is Clinton, a two-term senator from her "home" state of NY (notice she did not return to Illinois or Arkansas) and the youthful Obama (D-IL) who speaks well but says nothing. Both are liberals who do not like to be labeled as such.
Progressive is what they'd prefer. Socialist is more like it.
John McCain (R-AZ) is hardly conservative based on his reaching (or walking) across the aisle in the Senate. Republicans had a very good candidate in Mitt Romney (R-MA) and he may well be considered as vice-president this cycle or perhaps a candidate again in 2012.
McCain's bravery in the Vietnam War as a POW and his experience in the Senate, I believe, make him the best choice to lead our country. The other two are disasters waiting to happen.

Barack has one thing that the others don't have, he does not receive money from special interest groups and I believe he does not have shares in any oil companies. He does not owe anyone therefore does not have to listen to the pressure these groups have put on our government in the past.
Everyday I watch the media and still have the same opinion about Hillary, she likes to tell stories( bullshit ) just like her husband, she is a liar and based on some reports, she should be in jail. This whole Clinton presidential thing seems like a plan that they have sceemed, Hillary getting elected gets Bill back in office again and Hillary in the History books. Everyone mentions Hillary and medical insurance and what she will do, at the beginning of Bill's presidentsy that was also the talk, Hillary working on the medical insurance issue, how many years ago was that? It's time to tell the Clinton's to go home and sit on their on front porch and tell their bullshit stories to each other.
John McCain is part of the government now in office which dumb people will say, we need a change just for change. You better take a good look at history, when there has been turmoil in the world our country has always elected someone with experience in that matter. Now that the economy has gone bad there has to be a decision between that and the radical people that say they want to kill us. To me it is a easy decision, life goes in cycles and we're in a cycle with the economy that history says will work its way out. I have young kids that I want to be able to go through all these cycles on there own, do I have to say anymore.
