Each year there is a low turnout for the annual school election. And each year one of the reasons for the low turnout, besides the the fact of the time of the year it is held, is because the individuals who run for the Board (all nice people) are not qualified to be elected to that position. As such Mr/Mrs. Voter in Gloucester City stays away from the voting booth. Let's be kind the people who are sitting on that Board today do not have a clue about what they are doing.
Most only have an high school education if that and they are expected to help manage a $40 million budget and help decide who is hired or fired. Until qualified educated people get involved in running for that body the administrator will have full reign on whatever proposal/appointment he or she wants passed. Including padding the payroll with their friends and former associates as we have seen happen with the Stanksy regime.
The system needs to be fixed. How I don't know. But one suggestion would be to require a potential board member to pass an exam to see if they can read and write. Likewise it would a good idea to do a criminal background check on each individual before allowing their name to be placed on the ballot.

I agree that the Superintendent works for the people as well as the BOE, however it seems that the general population of steady voters have made their voice heard, and they agree with the current BOE. Don't blame the Board, blame all of those who haven't voted.

Bill,
Thank You so much for posting what myself and a LOT of other people think. Most of all Thank You for posting a Poll so everyone can voice their own Vote and I'm Positive that if enough people both Call and E-mail Gloucester City School Superintendent Mr. Paul Spaventa & let him and the School Board Members Know how we as a City Feel/Think about this issue.
There are certain things that just plain strike a nerve in people and this is one of those instances. I know you work very hard on this website/blog and don't think for a minute that what you do is "Thankless" because myself and others sure do Thank You for your efforts in Gloucester City and the surrounding areas! Every time that someone gets their post or e-mail published on your website think of it as a Thank You!
You Rock Bill....
Cut the Damn Red Tape in this City already!!!
