Gloucester City Police Make Several Arrest: List includes Burglary, Robbery, Drug Possession & Other Crimes
During the weekend of 04/18 - 04/20 several residents of Park Avenue and Gehrig Avenue had several items removed from rear yards and sheds. Several vehicles were also burglarized during the same time period. On 04/21 Inv. Carl Depoder and Sgt. Brian Morrell observed Michael Canning (20) of Gloucester City riding his bicycle in the area of Market Street and Park Avenue.
When the officers attempted to stop him to speak to him about the incidents, the male fled on his bike before leaving the bike in a rear yard on Walnut Avenue. All officers were able to set up a perimeter and with the assistance of Ptl. Flood and K-9 Marco, the male was found hiding in a rear yard in the Crescent Trailer Park. The male was taken into custody and questioned about the thefts and burglaries.
Mr. Canning did admit his involvement in same and was charged with several counts of theft and burglary. He was remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility after failing to post bail.
04/28 at 0122 hours a female from the 500 block of Cumberland Street reported that approximately 2230 hours on 04/27, when she was robbed of her cell phone while standing in front of her residence. The female stated she was standing out front of the residence when a male and female walked behind her, pushed her to the ground, and stole her cell phone. The victim could not provide any further details.
04/28 at 1254 hours Ptl. William Lessig conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 130 South and Market Street on a 2005 Dodge. A check of the vehicle registration showed the vehicle to be stolen out of Mt. Ephraim. The driver of the vehicle, Ashley Kern, was placed under arrest at this time. A check of her pocketbook showed her to be in possession of two glass smoking pipes and several empty bags used to package crack cocaine. Ashley Kern was charged with receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility.
Sometime between 0600 hours and 1930 hours on 04/26 unknown person(s) entered into a locked vehicle parked on South Stinson Street and removed one GPS navigational system.
04/27 at 1317 hours Sgt. Michael Morrell responded to the 500 block of Market Street for an assault. Upon arrival both parties were separated and stated that had engaged in a fist fight in the street. Both parties were placed under arrest for disorderly conduct and transported to headquarters. The males, identified as Brooks Orth (26) and Robert Schulter (36), both of Gloucester City, were charged and released.
04/24 at 1323 hours officers were dispatched to John's Deli on North Broadway for an armed robbery. The employees of the store stated that a white male had entered into the store carrying a fake gun and demanded money from the register. The employees refused, at which time the male successfully opened the register on his own. The employee quickly closed it and the male fled on foot out of the store.
While officers were responding, a witness stated that she observed the accused male enter into a rear door of a residence on North Broadway. Officers responded to the residence and placed the accused male under arrest. The male, identified as Thomas Dibiasio (30) of Wenonah, was positively identified by witnesses and employees of the store. He was charged with Robbery and remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility after failing to post $100,000.00 bail.
04/19 at 1815 hours Cpl Craig Reinhart conducted a motor vehicle stop on a 1997 Jeep on South Broadway after receiving a report of the vehicle driving erratically on Broadway. Upon approaching the vehicle and asking the driver to shut off the engine, the driver put the vehicle into gear and fled south on Broadway at a high rate of speed. Cpl. Reinhart did notify other units of the incident and began to pursue the vehicle. Westville P.D. did take over the pursuit and did chase the vehicle into West Deptford. The vehicle was stopped on Hessian Road and the driver was taken into custody. The driver, identified as Michael Finn (40) of West Deptford, was charged with eluding and several motor vehicle violations. He was processed and released.
Those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court law.
