Abbott District audits show waste

TRENTON -- Some of the state's poorest school districts spent thousands of dollars on consultants, travel and sports related festivities, according to audits of 27 Abbott districts released this week.
In Bridgeton, school officials sent staff to conferences in Atlanta, Ohio, Orlando and San Diego. The school also paid a consultant, Salmon Ventures, $12,000 over three months for grant writing and to lobby state agencies, according to the audit conducted by KPMG LLP in New York.

How is Gloucester kept out of these articles? Gloucester has a public information officer that is paid over $65,000. All she does is attend local meetings and is the focus of many conversations when she is not around. Oh yea! She is a grant writer who writes grants for entitlement grants from the federal government which we will receive with or without her writings. Also this is the same person who hired a consultant for $15,000 to do the new superintendent search. The State would have provided the same service for $3,000. No one knows how much that family health fair cost the city. OH! Don't worry it was Abbott money which is taken from other PROUD school districts from their lack of funding.
