Gloucester City: Audits criticize school spending
source www.courierpostonline.com
In a letter to the Department of Education,
Gloucester City blasted the nearly 300-page audit, calling it "often
misleading, contradictory and wordy for the sake of authoring a
document of substantial size."
For example, even though the audit indicates $2,251 was spent only on doughnuts, Superintendent Paul Spaventa said the money was actually spent on a full day of community outreach at the high school.
There was a blood drive, a tour of newly renovated classrooms, registration for preschool and refreshments -- including hot dogs, juice, healthy snacks and, yes, doughnuts.

Bill, Hello allow me not to introduce myself at this time. I am a current citizen of this town and I moved back to my small home town this past year. I was proud of this city once when I was a kid, and having a hard time understanding the change that has come across the town now. I'm still proud of this town, when it comes to "positive actions & words" and would like to encourage the person(s) or groups that are interested in raising funds and awareness of saving energy in more than one aspect in their lives. I would like to see what I can do to help support the local schools, teams, music programs, clubs, organizations, and such. This is not a hand out b/c this is a "hard working town" right? In order to make money you need to spend a little money is what my Grandfather always told me. This is what may be causing a yield to the certain parties that don't have enough discipline to keep themselves busy and make a difference in their community. We need to spread a "GOOD WORD(s)" about being proud of what you do for yourself and others. This can result in the coming together of the citizens of Gloucester City to all be on the same page. We all can begin to feel PROUD again about what we all have accomplished in life. I really need your help to understand why the jogging track/bike trail, playground down on Johnson Blvd looks the way it does. This can start with "ONE SIMPLE CHANGE." This is a major concern of mine b/c a family member of mine helped build the playground and now it doesn't look any better than it did the last time I walked around the track.
This has extended into the rest of the community b/c as I left the jogging track/bike trail...the water that was around the railroad tracks had trash, bottles, and cans everywhere. The world can see this when they come to visit the historical Irish town. Please keep in mind that this example of a reputation being tarnished can be spoiled by one small word or slang. (Just like the physical appearance of the excess waste that doesn't make it into the trash can or recycling can. People seem to be lazier than ever, and only want to say the word "donut" when they could have told you a whole sentence like "We had a blood drive that included the necessary refreshments and such for the blood drive to be a success."
I am currently working on a new fundraiser campaign and would like to see if someone or necessary parties would be interested in keeping the community busy. This fundraiser offers a FREE science lesson to all not only the classroom(s).
*****We need to teach our children the importance of being socially responsible. When this action is completed correctly and respectively, the person(s) will feel that they are successful. They won't feel that they are "just" going through life and watching it pass them by as the wastes of energy pile up around them and cause global warming"
LIFE = BIOLOGY
Kind regards-A citizen that cares about the earth and my community

The District cries about everything and it is the State's fault for the low teat scores. Stop making excuses and start providing a better education.

Why can't we just stick to classroom instruction and immediate health problems like head lice?
The school appears to be eager to attack its critics but not its problems.
Publish the audit and let us see for ourselves.
