Gloucester City Board of Health Information
The Gloucester City Board of Health meets every 2nd Monday in each of the following months (January, March, July, September, November and December) at City Hall, 313 Monmouth Street at 7:30 pm.
The following members were appointed by the Mayor and Council for three-year staggering terms, as well as two alternate members appointed to staggered terms:
Eleanor Kain - President
Joseph Hartzel - Vice President
John P. Schmidt
James "Bowie" Johnson
Roseann Michel
Bernadette Gorman
Bruce Marks
Jim Everett
Anna Marie Smith - Secretary
Purpose
The Gloucester City Board of Health serves as an advisory board that advises the Mayor and Council on public health issues. The Board also runs a yearly rabies clinic, a blood drive as well as other health related programs though out the City.
Blood Drive - August 13, 2008 at Gloucester Heights Fire Hall on Nicholson Road
Rabies Clinic - October 4, 2008 at Public Works Dept. on Brick Street
NOTE from Bill: ....I see some information was recently added to the City's website pertaining to the Board of Health. But the City failed to include the contact phone numbers and or email addresses for each member. The public should be able to reach someone on this Board in case a health emergency arises.
Hopefully it was an oversight and the information will be posted now that it has been brought to the City's attention.

Board of Health members do not get paid 2,000. per year. Perhaps the secretary and/or president receive a stipend, but the other members are not financially compensated.

Why does Paul Kain draw $13,900 from the Washington Township section of Burlington county?

We need 9 people to run two events? And they are getting paid $2,000 each? What other "health issues" do they deal with? I think we could save some money for the city in this area.

J.P.S.
You may want to defend the older members on the board. But, you can't defend the effectiveness of the two oldest cronies. They are only effective when acting as political hacks using the board as leverage over political opponents.

I do not believe age should be a factor in whether or not a person is qualified to serve in government.
I believe the comments said about age should not be a factor whether it be young or old. However I do believe that everyone is entitled to their opinions and if you base your reason on age that is fine.
That said, I do not believe age whether you are young or old should be the basis of whether you should be on the Board of Health or any other board. I do believe in some cases age might play a role but I believe if you are effective and fulfill your job and serve all the people fairly and justly then you should be allowed to serve.
I wish government officials were rated on the way they handle their job and their service to the people they serve.

Frank Lautenberg - 84, no longer effective in the senate for New Jersey. To Old.
Bob Byrd - Great guy but to old to be in the senate.
Strom Thurmond - Died just months after leaving the senate. Was to old.
Anna Marie Smith - 80, almost same age as Frank Lautenberg and Bob Byrd. To Old to be on the Board and to old to be making almost $ 2,000 from the taxpayers.
Eleanor Kain - You get the point?
Let's See Some Change James Gang.

Lied to Again,
Just to let you know Bernadette Gorman is not related to Bobby Gorman. She is from a different Gorman family.

It seems to me that only the political hacks chose to name them selfs as the good guys. Rumor has it the political hacks have been giving the newer members a lesson in subordination.
It seem to me.

Great Idea and I will drink to your great post. Tell it like it is. They screwed a lot of us.
We can drink to your post on the new deck at the Dog House and we can let short arms and deep pockets Chiodi buy.

It seems to me Mayor James and council made the wise choice to utilize the experience, knowledge, and desire to serve by asking Eleanor Kain, Anna Smith, and Bowie Johnson to continue contributing to Gloucester's needs by serving on the Bd. of Health. All community groups need experienced individuals to lead and train the new -comers. When this does not happen, the committee or group collapses. The Bd. of Health has been running smoothly and successfully for years, so why disturb it? New individuals have now been added and will gain experience and knowledge . This board is an advisory board and does not possess much "power", which certainly does NOT diminish the valuable contributions they make to our town. This wisdom allows for Mayor and council to invest their time and energy in other community needs.

Look @ these 5 "New" people that the "Independent James Team" has delivered just like they "Promised" they cleaned house in Gloucester City and how best to "Clean Up" then with the Board of Health. Yes a majority listed are the "New Comers" people that are not related to the Old Democrat Club in Gloucester City.
Keeping these people involved in the day to day operations of Gloucester City is just genius. I'm so PROUD of the Mr. James, Marchase & Brophy. You guys REALLY have KEPT YOUR WORD! I AM so GLAD that I helped DONATE and CAMPAIGN for you guys! And you sure SHOWED Paul Kain, what's next a BIG RAISE for the Family?
