then why aren't there daily or weekly tragedies in the 90% of the towns that DON'T have paid departments? especially with their SLOW responses?

Then what happens in Gloucester City when our fire department is in another town & something happens? Do we have to depend on the volunteers and hope they decide to show up. I'm sure part of our taxes pay for OUR fire department and WE should have the protection. If our volunteers want to go out of town, thats fine. But keep our paid guys for the OUR city!

You should go to Wildwood and see all the Fire Trucks out of their municipalities. Not to mention all the alcohol, and the way the Firemen "Act" while they are there. Use your imagination, and then times it by 100, that's how nuts it can get. See you in Wildwood

it's called mutual aid.......they call the paid dept for a reason, they know they will be there in a timely fashion not have to wait for the volunteers if they decide to show up.

Our paid fire department should never leave our town. It's okay to send our volunteers, but if we have a fire in town while they are out taking care of another towns business i imagine it could be a problem.

Dear Bill,
First I want to thank our first responders for going out of the way for others. I am just wondering does Gloucester City receive any payment for responding to other towns or is it all paid by the taxpayers of Gloucester.
