ROWAN BASEBALL DEFEATS WILLIAM PATERSON, 14-6 IN NJAC TOURNAMENT

NEWARK, NJ – Fourth seeded Rowan University defeated fifth seeded William Paterson University, 14-6 in game six of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament on Saturday. The game was played at Bears and Eagles Stadium in Newark, NJ.
The double elimination tournament continues at Bears and Eagles Stadium on Sunday-Monday, May 4-5. Rowan (30-10) will play top seeded Kean University (32-9) on Sunday at 10 a.m. and William Paterson (23-18) faces the second seed Montclair State University (23-15) at 2 p.m. The loser of Kean/Rowan takes on the winner of Montclair State/William Paterson at 6 p.m. Earlier on Saturday, Montclair State defeated sixth seeded Richard Stockton College (22-15), 7-5 in 10 innings and Kean eliminated the third seed The College of New Jersey (28-10), 5-4.
Profs' left hander Joe Cichy (sr. Vineland, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) pitched 7.2 innings, allowing on earned run. Cichy (5-2) recorded eight strikeouts. Right hander Dan VandeVrede (sr. Lincoln park, NJ/Pequannock) took the loss (3-2) on the mound for the Pioneers.
Rowan was led by third baseman Paul Urbanovich (sr. Rutherford, NJ/St. Peter's Prep) with four hits (six at bats), two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored. Left fielder Frank Hasenauer (sr. Iselin, NJ/John F. Kennedy) added three hits in five at bats, two doubles and three runs scored. Designated hitter Roland Rodriguez (so. Miami, FL/Miami Killian) contributed with three RBIs and two runs scored.
For William Paterson, right fielder Mike Guadango (so. Upper Saddle River, NJ/Northern Highlands) went one for five with two RBIs and one run scored. Catcher Vince Joyce (sr. Franklin, NJ/Wallkill Valley) had two hits (three at bats) and one run scored. Center fielder John Elia (jr. Emerson, NJ/Pascack Valley) posted one hit (four at bats), a double, one RBI and one run scored.
Rowan got on the scoreboard first with two runs in the top of the fourth inning. Hasenauer scored on an error and Urbanovich came home on a ground out by Rodriguez. The Profs added eight runs in the sixth. Urbanovich drove in Hasenauer with a double and Ready's double scored Urbanovich. Rodriguez's single plated Ready and right fielder John McMullin (jr. Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic). Second baseman Joe Franceschini's (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) single knocked in center fielder Garrett Mull (jr. Chatsworth, NJ/Lenape).
