TCNJ softball team beats #5 Montclair State; to face Red Hawks for NJAC title

Montclair, NJ...Sophomore pitcher Ashley Minervini (Cliddside Park,
NJ/Cliffside Park) tossed her third straight shutout and scored the winning run
as the Lions knocked off host and top-seeded Montclair State University 1-0 in
eight innings on Saturday.
TCNJ (26-15) advances to Sunday's title game
and will face Montclair State . Game time is set for noon. Should the Red Hawks
win that game, the two teams will met again at 2:30 p.m. for the championship.
The winner of the NJAC Tournament also earns the conference's automatic berth to
the NCAA Division III Championships.
Minvervini led off the eigth inning
with a double and then scored when Camile Heller (Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade)
walked with the bases loaded and two outs.
Sophomore Ellen Seavers
(Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) went 2-for-3 at the plate for the
Lions.
Minervini allowed just four hits in the eight innings with three
strikeouts. She is now 15-8 on the season and is a perfect 3-0 in the tournament
and has not allowed a run in 22 innings of work.
