WHEN EAST MEETS WEST……Moving On For Now
By Hank Miller
Since I have been writing When East Meets West, commentary for a few years, I have received only two inquires regarding my commentaries and
both have been from friends. I would have liked to have got many more feedbacks from the readers who enjoy my commentaries over the last few years, but that didn't happen.
I have attempted to compare a little humor as well as the social values and social behavior of the Japanese with those of Americans most from my own experiences, both living and working in Japan some 30 years now. Since both societies are different historically and geographically, it is only natural that their social values will be different as well. I attempted to bring to light all that a foreign person experiences living here in Japan for many years.
It takes quite a lot of time to put these commentaries together to post each week, some of them I have been working on for even months, I have to research most of the commentaries and prepare all the facts. Thus it requires time to do so, No, I don't have writers block and I enjoy writing these commentaries very much, it's just time consuming to do.
Besides my writing, I am Director of MILLER ENGLISH SCHOOL JAPAN; I have been extremely busy working long hours every day except on the weekends Saturday and Sunday. I will be 72 years old on June 27th. Thus, I need more free time to do other projects such as hobbies and to just relax with my wife Keiko. So this will be my last commentary for now.
I will occasionally write commentary for the ClearysNotebook when I find more free time to do so in the future. I'm going to miss the contact with the Gloucester City people and the people of the surrounding communities who enjoy reading my Commentary.
Have a great and safe summer! Warm Regards from Kitakyushu City, Japan

Aloha Uncle Harry!
When East Meets West and stops in Denver in between! I am sorry that you will be taking a break. I enjoyed reading your writings. It was a great way to keep up with you after so many years apart. I hope that you can still post shorter comments just to keep us up to date on your activities.
Take Care to you and Aunt Keiko and the kids,
Love,
John

Hank,
I love reading your articles. Your stories are very entertaining and always filled with fun and interest. Maybe for something different you could have your students write a simple story and submit it. Something about their family life or work life so we can see how different their day is or isn't from ours. Than we could comment on weather we have experienced something similar. It might help with their English skills.
Sorry your not writing anymore though I'm sure you still have a million stories to tell.

I for one certainly appreciate you efforts and its content. When you return to Gloucester City I would like to treat you and brother Joe and families to dinner and a night out. I thoroughly enjoyed our last visits. Please keep me on your email list. I like the different view points you send. When you do find time to post something send us a picture of the bears in your area.
Warm Regards to you and Keiko

Hiya Hank!
I was sorry to see this commentary will be your last. I enjoy reading them. I don't know if you remember me or not, but i met you when you were in on Halloween when you were at your brothers house. We live around the corner from Joe and my kids are always at his house playing. Good luck to you and enjoy taking some time for you. You certainly deserve it!
