GLOUCESTER CITY NJ--Former Gloucester City resident Peter D. McGlade aka “Uncle Pete”
loss his 18 month battle to *multiple myeloma on Sunday, June 9 at his home in Key Largo, Florida.
Pete was the son of the late Peter and Theresa McGlade. His father was the former Gloucester City Postmaster and his mom, was a local real estate agent who also owned a restaurant in Cape May NJ. Together the couple raised 10 children, six girls and three boys. Besides Pete, they include: Patrick, Tom, Jim, Christine McGlade Foley, Mary McGlade Schmidt, Mickey McGlade, Agnus McGlade Berenato,Bernadette McGlade and Theresa McGlade Lombardi.
His brother Tom, “Tuce” McGlade said Pete loved the water. “While he was here in South Jersey he got involved in scuba diving and would often spend a weekend at the shore diving for lobster. He became a certified scuba diver instructor and taught many people from the area how to dive. For 10 years he worked with me as a carpenter setting up trade shows across the United States. He also was a licensed real estate agent.”
Thirty-three years ago, Peter decided to head for Florida and lived in the Miami area working as a licensed private investigator out of the Miami Airport. During that time he also worked as a consultant for the popular television show, Miami Vice.
Pete was a graduate of Gloucester Catholic High School, class of 1966. Always looking for a new venture he opened a real estate office in Key Largo and became quite successful.
