Officials say artificial turf isn't hazardous

source www.nj.com

Lions' Stadium at TCNJ has since been closed, and officials there said the school is ditching the 10-year-old artificial turf to be replaced with an alternative.

Following the investigation, TCNJ had the artificial turf tested twice more -- with elevated lead levels coming back each time, said spokesman Matt Golden.

Donna Leusner, a spokeswoman from the state DHSS, said the dangers posed by the lead found are "low."

Health officials yesterday maintained the AstroTurf product is not hazardous.
