The base was closed in 1986, and the Coast Guard moved across the Delaware to Penns Landing. In 1991 the deed to the base was obtained by the City from the government. It  was presented to the City by United States Senator Frank Lautenberg, of New Jersey. Originally the plans for the property  included a restaurant on the pier and a marina. A number of studies were done costing thousands of dollars all confirming the restaurant/marina idea.

However, in 1998 the City said the hell with the studies and  signed a 99- year- lease with Holt Cargo Systems.  The property and the building are now being used by Holt for his corporate headquarters.
