Coker kneeled with his elbow on his knee to steady his shot. The buck walked into an opening and the hunter fired. At first, he could find no sign that the deer had been hit. Then he found a small spot of blood.
He found his prize after a long search and could not believe his eyes. "It's the buck I've been hunting for 35 years," Coker said. "I called my wife to tell her what happened, and I was so excited she thought I must have hurt myself."
With 12 typical points and seven nontypical, Coker's huge buck grosses 1972/8 nontypical Boone and Crockett points. The antlers have exceptional mass with beams that measure 25 inches each and an inside spread of 22½ inches.
